Spotlight on…Hummus Kitchen

Dining out in Manhattan is notoriously expensive. It doesn’t have to be, though, which is why I’m starting a new feature to spotlight affordable (and yummy) restaurants.

First up: Hummus Kitchen in Hell’s Kitchen (768 9th Avenue between 51st and 52nd Streets). I went there today for lunch with my friends Tammy and Lianne to feed a shared addiction to hummus. We weren’t disappointed. For under $20, we shared the sampler platter and three appetizers. (that’s only about $7 each!).

The hummus sampler with four types of toppings. All of them were fantastic!

The four hummus mixtures were incredibly smooth, our appetizers (beets and feta cheese, falafel, and bureka) were perfect for sharing, and the server was fast and nice. I definitely recommend this place if you like Greek or vegetarian cuisine. They also opened a new location on the Upper East Side if you’re on that side of town (1613 Second Avenue between 83rd and 84th Streets).

Do you have any affordable restaurants in NYC to recommend? What kind of cuisine should I seek out next?

Let me know when you make it back here. I’ll treat you to lunch at Hummus Kitchen (I already want to go back, haha).
